MONTANA SCRAP TIRE BRIEFING SHEET

STATE REGULATIONS
Regulation of tires comes under the Montana Solid Waste Management Act and the associated administrative rules. Tires are currently accepted for disposal at most all of Montana's landfills, however, some landfills are beginning to charge differential fees for whole or split tires. Two landfills have been licensed as tire monofills. Scrap tire collection and storage facilities must be permitted and licensed as a solid waste management facility.

Scrap tires are regulated under the Montana Solid Waste Management Act and the Montana Motor Vehicle Recycling and Disposal Act and the associated administrative rules. Both acts were passed in 1977.

Collection sites must be licensed as a solid waste management facility and collected of stored scrap tires must be shielded from public view.
